Making sure iTunes or Miro does not automatically download and buy items in a Channel feed

When you subscribe to a Channel feed, you want to make sure that iTunes or Miro is set to download only the first preview item in the Channel feed. All preview items are free, and appear above their item in the Channel feed. You will probably want to avoid having all the items in a Channel feed downloading automatically because you are charged when "for pay" items are downloaded.

Be sure to check your settings to prevent Miro or iTunes from automatically downloading items in a Channel feed.

iTunes

Before subscribing to a Channel feed, open iTunes Preferences, and in the Podcasts area. Set "When new episodes are available" to Do nothing. iTunes has only one global setting for download preferences.

To preview or buy new content, click the GET button beside the name of the item in the Channel feed.

Miro

Miro settingsAfter subscribing to a Channel feed, you can set the settings for that Channel feed from the AUTO DOWNLOAD pop-up menu at the top of the window. Set the pop-up menu to OFF. Miro allows this setting to be customized on a Channel-feed by Channel-feed basis.
